BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team posted a sixth-place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a three-round total of 903.

NKU turned in rounds of 302-299-302 during the two-day event hosted by Bowling Green State and held at the par-72 Stone Ridge Golf Club.

Marshall captured the team title with scores of 289-288-289 for a total of 866.  The Thundering Herd finished three strokes ahead of second-place Valparaiso, which shot rounds of 285-292-292 for a  three-round total of 869.

Corey Richmond and Matt Wetherill finished tied for 20th place to pace the Norse.  Both shot a two-day total of 224.  Richmond carded rounds of 74-72-78, while Wetherill turned in rounds of 76-72-76.  Tanner Walton followed two strokes behind with a share of 24th place and a total of 226 (76-7773).

Michael Schmidt and Clayton Portz rounded out the team scoring for NKU.  Schmidt shot a 233 (76-78-79) for a 35th-place finish, and Portz recorded a 238 total (81-82-75) and a 39th-place finish.

Wisconsin-Green Bay's Tom Boockmeier earned the individual medal after shooting rounds of 75-68-70 for a 3-under par total of 213.  Chris Melvin of Bowling Green State finished one stroke behind in second place.  Melvin carded rounds of 71-71-72 for a two-day total of 214.

The Norse return to action Sept. 23-24 as they travel to Louisville, Ky., to participate in the Cardinal Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisville at the Cardinal Club.
