Norse look to snap three-game losing streak


NORSE NOTES (FIVE STARTERS & ONE)

1• NKU is 8-15 overall after dropping a 95-77 decision at Jacksonville on Saturday. The Norse are 4-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

2• Keith McDougald and Jarvis Haywood combined for 41 points, nine rebounds and eight assists to lead Jacksonville. The Dolphins used a 15-0 run in the first half to turn a 9-5 deficit into a 20-9 lead.

3• Jordan Jackson scored 18 points and added six assists to lead NKU against Jacksonville.

4• Todd Johnson made four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points against Jacksonville.

5• NKU is now 2-9 on the road this season.

+1• The Norse are 1-2 all-time against ETSU.


NKU MEETS ETSU: Northern Kentucky plays host to East Tennessee State at 7 p.m. Thursday night. The Norse enter that game 8-15 overall, 4-7 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

East Tennessee State is 12-11 overall, 5-5 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Buccaneers hold a 2-1 lead in the all-time series against the Norse, including a 74-65 win earlier this season in Johnson City, Tenn.

ON TARGET: Norse sophomore guard Todd Johnson is 8-for-12 from 3-point range during the Florida road trip and averaged 16.5 points per game in those two contests. Johnson made all four of his trey attempts at North Florida and was 4-for-8 from long range against Jacksonville.

Johnson averages 8.7 points per game this season and is third in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 3-point shooting at 43 percent (40-for-93).

AT HOME: NKU is 6-4 at home this season. The Norse are 64-15 all-time in The Bank of Kentucky Center, which opened in 2008.

BIG NUMBER: Jacksonville's 95 points represented the most allowed by NKU since beginning Division I play last season. Kentucky scored 93 points earlier this season to become the first opponent to reach the 90-point plateau against NKU since the Norse reclassified to Division I.

STAT STUFFER: Junior guard Jordan Jackson leads NKU in scoring (14.5 points per game), assists (2.9 apg) and steals (1.6 spg). Jackson has scored in double figures 16 times, including four games of at least 20 points. He has twice been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week this season.

Jackson poured in 20 points against East Tennessee State on Jan. 11 and was 8-for-10 from the free-throw line in that game. He also collected four steals against the Buccaneers.

FROM LONG RANGE: NKU is third in the Atlantic Sun Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 7.6.

IN THE PAINT: Jalen Billups leads NKU in rebounding (5.1 rpg) and is fourth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in field-goal percentage (.558). Billups was 4-for-5 from the field against Jacksonville on Saturday and finished with 11 points.

He has scored in double figures 12 times this season with a career-high 25 points in a win at Tulane. Billups also has three double-doubles this season.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST ETSU: Earlier this season on Jan. 11, Rashawn Rembert scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half to lead East Tennessee State to a 74-65 victory over NKU in Johnson City, Tenn.

Hunter Harris added 17 points and three blocked shots for East Tennessee State. The Buccaneers used a 13-4 run in the second half to turn a 32-31 deficit into a 44-36 advantage and later led by as many as 18 points.

Jordan Jackson scored 20 points and collected four steals for NKU. Jalen Billups grabbed 12 rebounds and finished with 10 points, while Daniel Camps scored 12 points and dished out a career-best three assists. Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard added 11 points and seven rebounds for East Tennessee State.

The Buccaneers shot 45.1 percent from the field, including 8-for-16 from 3-point range.
