SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team posted a fifth-place finish out of 12 teams at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate, hosted by Tennessee Tech, on Tuesday.

The fifth-place finish is the highest for the Norse on the season thus far. Over the three rounds completed over two days, Northern Kentucky carded rounds of 301-299-293 for a total of 893. Northern Kentucky's score was just two strokes away from a fourth-place finish.

Tennessee Tech took fourth instead with a total score of 891. Tennessee captured first place with a three-round score of 853, while in-state rival Eastern Kentucky and West Georgia rounded out the top five teams with scores of 878 and 879, respectively.

Corey Richmond was once again solid for the Norse with a total score of 218 after shooting rounds of 68-74-76, earning a 12th-place finish overall. But, he was not the only Northern Kentucky golfer who competed well for the Norse. Of the eight Northern Kentucky golfers who competed, six finished in the top 45.  Tanner Walton, who competed as an individual, took a team-best fourth-place finish. Walton shot rounds of 70-78-68 to total 216 over 54 holes of golf.

Matt Wetherill, also competing as an individual, finished tied for 16th with a score of 219 (72-72-75), and Phoenix Ramsey shot 224 (78-77-69) to finish tied for 25th. Adding to the team score for NKU was Clayton Portz and Zach Wright, recording scores of 227 (77-76-74) and 229 (78-75-76), respectively.  Portz finished tied for 37th and Wright earned a share of 44th place.  Landon Osborne rounded out the team score for the Norse with rounds of 84-74-74 for a two-day total of 232.

Tennessee's Oliver Goss and Danny Keddie took first and second place overall, carding totals of 210 and 213, respectively, over two complete rounds. Wes Gosselin from Chattanooga fell short of a second-place finish by two strokes, and Stuart Witt from Eastern Kentucky shot a 216 to give himself a share of fourth place alongside Northern Kentucky's Walton.

The Norse will return to action April 6-8 as they compete in the Grub Mart Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Ala., before returning to the Bluegrass to complete regular-season play at the Bluegrass Invitational, hosted by Kentucky.
