Complete resultsBRASELTON, Ga. – The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team posted a ninth-place finish at the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Tuesday at the Legends Course of the Chateau Elan Golf Club.
NKU turned in rounds of 312-307-310 for a three-round team total of 929. The Norse improved upon their 2013 total, the team's first season competing at the NCAA Division I level, by one stroke after NKU finished with a score of 930 last year.
Mercer, which was in second place after the first round on Sunday, posted rounds of 290-291-293 for a three-day score of 874 to capture the team title. The Bears finished six strokes ahead of second-place Kennesaw State, Sunday's leader. The Owls carded rounds of 288-295-297 for a total score of 880, while East Tennessee State rounded out the top three with an 884 total after steadily improving each round (299-293-292).
Corey Richmond, who began the day in a tie for second place, struggled in the final round and carded rounds of 73-71-78 for a total score of 222 to lead the Norse. Richmond finished tied for 11th place, while
Michael Schmidt and
Zach Wright each finished with a total score of 235 for a share of 35th place. Schmidt turned in rounds of 80-76-79 as Wright shot rounds of 77-80-78 over the three days.
Landon Osborne finished with a score of 243 on rounds of 83-85-75 and tied for 46th place.
Clayton Portz rounded out the team score for the Norse with rounds of 82-80-87 for a total score of 249. Portz finished in 50th place.
Mercer's Trey Rule, who started the final round tied with Richmond and Austin Vick of Kennesaw State, won the individual medal after turning in scores of 71-73-71 for a 1-under-par 215 total. A three-way tie for second place included Vick (73-71-74), Kennesaw State's Teremoana Beaucousin (69-76-73) and Mercer's James Beale (73-70-75), each finishing with a total of 218. ETSU teammates Rhys Pugh (76-72-71) and Adrian Meronk (73-73-73) completed the top five, finishing just one stroke out of second place at 219.
