CINCINNATI – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team's nonconference midweek game against Cincinnati at Marge Schott Stadium on Tuesday evening has been canceled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning due to weather conditions.

With the game being called before the final out of the NKU frame, no result can be recorded.  According the NCAA policy, a contest must go a full five innings to be considered an official game.

For the second year in a row, Cincinnati took a 2-0 lead after the first inning.  Matt Williams led off the inning with a single and advanced to second when Ian Happ drew a walk.  Williams went to third on a Justin Glass fly out before stealing home to put the Bearcats on the scoreboard.  A two-out RBI single by Connor McVey drove in Happ with the second run.

NKU responded in the top of the second.  Colin Hawk, in his first career appearance on the mound for Cincinnati, walked Jordan Procyshen to start the inning, and Cody Kuzniczci followed with a double down the left-field line.  Quint Heady drew a walk to load the bases, and a single by David Head brought Procyshen home to cut the Norse deficit in half.

After a strikeout, a Kyle Colletta walk allowed Kuzniczci to score, bringing Zac Asman to the plate.  Asman then doubled down the left-field line to bring home Heady, Head and Colletta for a 5-2 NKU advantage.

Cincinnati put two runners on base with two outs in the bottom of the third inning before lightning delayed the game.  Jake Shaw, however, needed just one pitch to end the Bearcats' threat before Cincinnati regained the lead in the fourth.

A Ryan Quinn ground out allowed Forrest Perron, who was walked to reached base, before Happ's two-run double down the right-field line scored Woody Wallace and Williams.  Glass then doubled to left field to bring Happ home for a 6-5 lead before the third lightning delay of the night.

The Bearcats added to their lead once play resumed when Devin Wenzel singled, which allowed Glass to score for a 7-5 Cincinnati advantage.  Cole Bauml scored on a Kuzniczci sacrifice fly, making it a 7-6 ballgame, before weather forced the end of the game.

NKU returns to action Wednesday as the Norse travel to Morehead, Ky., for a 6 p.m. contest against Morehead State.  Earlier this season, NKU defeated the Eagles, 7-3, at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.  Links to live stats and John Asalon's broadcast will be available at nkunorse.com.
