"We knew going into the game that that Morehead is one of the top teams in the (Ohio Valley Conference)," NKU head coach
Bob Sheehan said. "They're NCAA tournament tested, so we knew it was going to be a challenge for us and a battle. It was a physical game. Both teams worked really hard throughout the day. They were able to capitalize on a foul, and I thought we had a tremendous goal and just missed on a couple of other opportunities. Overall, I thought it was a great match."

After a scoreless first 45 minutes of play, NKU put a goal on the scoreboard less than five minutes into the second half.
Kelsey Laumann sent the ball forward to
Aubrey Muench, who beat the defense and passed it into the penalty box area.
Macy Hamblin then gained control of the ball, and her shot went by Morehead State goalkeeper Elizabeth Floyd and into the back of the net for a 1-0 Norse lead in the 50th minute.
The Eagles wasted no time tying the game. Just over one minute later, NKU was whistled for a foul, awarding Morehead State with a free kick opportunity. Kelsey Patera took the kick for the Eagles and sent the ball towards the Norse goal. Macy Cobb got ahold of the pass with her head and found the far left post for her first goal of the season.
NKU threatened at the end of regulation and the first overtime came, but the chances came just after time expired.
Morehead State finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks on the day. The Eagles offense put the pressure on the NKU defense early, creating several shot opportunities, but the Norse eventually countered with their own chances.
The Eagles placed seven shots on goal, and
Tanner Ruberg finished with six saves for NKU. Floyd made one save for Morehead State on the afternoon.
NKU now holds a 3-0-1 lead in the all-time series against Morehead State. A year ago,
Ariel Fischer's first collegiate goal lifted the Norse to a 2-1 win in the first overtime in Morehead, Kentucky.
"Like last week when we played Miami (Ohio), sometimes when you play top teams like this, it exposes your weaknesses," Sheehan said. "I think that is valuable from a coaching perspective. It gives us even more thoughts about where our players are and how we continue to develop them as we move through the season. It's always a bonus when you can play some tough competition."
NKU hits the road for the first time in the 2014 regular season next Sunday, as the Norse travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to take on IPFW at 12 p.m. Links to live stats will be available at NKUNorse.com.
