Hamblin scores twice in 4-0 win over UIC

CHICAGO – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team scored four first-half goals and never looked back, defeating Horizon League foe UIC, 4-0, on Saturday night at Flames Field to improve to 9-5-0 overall and 5-1-0 in League play.

"I thought we set the tone early in the game and played with a high level of intensity. I was really pleased with our offensive attack," said head coach Bob Sheehan. "Ally [Perkins] had a couple very nice serves while Macy [Hamblin] had some terrific finishes, and Jess [Frey] as well. Overall, it was a great team win and I'm excited for Shawna [Zaken] who had her first collegiate goal and Kayte [Osterfeld] on her first career assist."

Junior forward Macy Hamblin scored twice on Saturday and picked up an assist for five points while fellow junior forward Jessica Frey posted one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, freshman Ally Perkins added a pair of assists while Shawna Zaken (goal) and Kayte Osterfeld (assist) posted a pair of firsts in their respective collegiate careers.

NKU Scoring Summary
  • In the eighth minute, Hamblin scored her fifth goal of the season after rebounding an initial shot from Frey that was saved by the UIC goalkeeper. Perkins joined Frey on the double-assist.
  • Hamblin struck again in the 26th minute, once again connecting with Perkins, after collecting the ball off a scramble inside the box and depositing her goal from six yards out.
  • Ten minutes later, Frey netted a goal of her own on Hamblin's assist after dribbling into the box and firing from the left side, scoring in the opposite side of the net.
  • Zaken topped off NKU's scoring for the night on an assist from Osterfeld.
