Garrett’s double-double leads @NKUNorseMBB in win

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A huge run over the final 12-minutes of the first half propelled the Northern Kentucky men's basketball team to a 96-56 victory in the season opener against Earlham. Jeff Garrett set the tone during the decisive stretch by owning the boards on both ends of the court.
 
With the win, NKU starts the year, 1-0.
 
Stats Leaders
  • Garrett finished his collegiate debut stuffing the stat sheet with 12 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
  • Carson Williams led all scorers with 15 points on the strength of 6-for-7 shooting.
  • Drew McDonald went 6-for-8 from the floor en route to 13 points.
  • Jalen Tate and Dantez Walton each added 11 points, giving NKU five players in double-figures. 

First-Half Summary
  • NKU closed the opening stanza on a 32-8 run over the final 11:33 to take a 48-22 advantage into halftime.
  • Garrett set the tone during the stretch on the boards, as he pulled down eight caroms in that run. He finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the first half.

  • NKU's blistering second-half shooting is the second time in the John Brannen era when the Norse converted more than 70 percent shooting in a half. Against Norfolk State last season, NKU converted 74.1 percent (20-of-27) in the second stanza.
