DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team suffered a 12-1 setback at Wright State on Friday night at Nischwitz Stadium in the opener of a three-game series.
In anticipation of inclement weather on Saturday afternoon, NKU (9-17, 0-7 Horizon League) and Wright State (17-8, 6-1 Horizon League) agreed to move game two's first pitch up to 11 a.m. on Saturday instead of the originally scheduled 2 p.m. start.
The teams exchanged scoreless innings to open the game before the Raiders got the scoring started in the bottom of the second on a two-run single from JD Orr who went 6-for-6 on the day.
Conor Ledger cut the Raider lead to 2-1 in the top of the third, driving in NKU's lone run with an RBI double to plate
Ryan LeFevers who reached on a walk and stole second.
Wright State plated four runs in each of the next two innings to break it open at 10-1 en route to picking up the win.
WSU ace Jesse Scholtens got the win after tossing 7.0 innings with three hits, one run, two walks and eight strikeouts.
Kyle Colletta absorbed the loss after tossing 4.2 innings while reliever
Kevin Herren tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief to end the game.

NORSE NOTES:- Ledger is now tied with Logan Spurlin for a team-best 10-game hitting streak. The junior has 13 hits across the last 10 games and has hit safely in 14 of his 17 games this season.
- Herren made his sixth appearance of the season and has now tossed 2.1 scoreless innings against League opponents.
- NKU's lead-off batter safely reached base four times on Friday as Norse leadoff batters are reaching at a .380 clip this season.
