HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Jordan Harbacek matched a career high with six strikeouts in the circle for the Northern Kentucky University softball team in a 2-0 loss to Horizon League foe Detroit on Friday afternoon.
Cheyenne Willeford and Savvy Ferstle each picked up two hits for the Titans (9-27, 2-5 Horizon), while the Norse (8-26, 1-5 Horizon) got hits from
Zahrya McFarland,
Dani Devlin and
Sydney Ferrante on the afternoon.
Detroit posted both of its runs in the third inning. Jenna Reeves opened with a single and was lifted for a pinch runner. After a sacrifice, Willeford rapped a single into left field and advanced to second on the play. The Norse threw to catch Willeford, but the ball skipped away, allowing a run to score. Willeford came home one batter later on a squeeze bunt to make the final score.
Harbacek (5-8) scattered five hits and gave up a pair of unearned runs while not walking a batter in the hard-luck loss. The win went to Detroit's Ashley Mauser (6-9), who walked four and gave up three hits while striking out five.
Due to cold weather concerns, Saturday's doubleheader to conclude the series has been pushed back to 2 p.m. Links to live stats are available at NKUNorse.com.
