YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A six-run third inning made the difference as the Northern Kentucky University softball team fell in its season and series finale against Youngstown State, 10-3.
With the result, the Norse finish the season at 13-40 overall and 5-18 in Horizon League play, setting new high-water marks for NKU in the Division I era.
Sydney Ferrante led the way offensively for the Norse, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run, her fourth of the season. Ferrante's blast over the left-field wall in the third inning opened the scoring for the Norse and tied things up at 1-1.
After Youngstown State's (29-19, 15-7 Horizon) big third inning, the Norse fought back in the fourth as Jordan Harbacek drove in a run with an infield single to plate Dani Devlin, who led off the inning with a double.
Paige McQueen added a run for the Norse on an RBI groundout, but NKU could muster no more offense in the contest.
Mikovich led the way offensively for Youngstown State, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs. Paige Geanangel (16-10) got the win, her third decision of the weekend, striking out three and walking two in the complete-game effort.
The loss fell to NKU's Charlie Nolen (4-15), who gave up three runs on four hits and struck out one in two innings.
