RIO GRANDE, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team fell to Rio Grande on Sunday, 3-1, in its first exhibition match of the season.
NKU's goal was scored by
Jacob Cunningham in the 55th minute. Freshman
Tucker Monheimer won possession from a Red Storm defender and crossed the ball to Cunningham to bring the Norse within one goal of Rio Grande.
The Red Storm struck twice in the first half for goals in the fifth and 40th minute of play. They went on to seal their win with a 62nd–minute goal for the 3-1 result.
The Norse return to action on Sunday, Aug. 21 when they host Kentucky for a 7 p.m. exhibition match at NKU Soccer Stadium. The match will be the second and final exhibition contest before the Norse open the regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 26 against Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m.
