WSOC falls to App State in season opener, 3-1

BOONE, N.C. - Freshman Ally Perkins connected with junior Macy Hamblin for a 35th-minute goal in the season opener, but Appalachian State netted a pair of goals early in the second half en route to defeating the Northern Kentucky women's soccer team, 3-1, on Friday at Appalachian Soccer Stadium.

NKU Scoring Summary
  • Hamblin netted NKU's lone goal on a header after receiving a cross from Perkins for NKU's first goal of the season. The marker gave the Norse a 1-0 edge after 35 minutes of play.
Between the Posts
  • Sophomore Emily Lohmann made her first career start in goal and faced 20 shots, making seven saves.
  • Lohmann did not allow a goal in Appalachian State's eight corner kick attempts.
  • Mountaineer goalkeeper Sam Steyl faced nine shots from NKU and made a pair of saves.

  • NKU's nine shots were distributed across six different players. Hamblin, Frey and Katelyn Newton posted two shot attempts apiece.
  • Hamblin, a junior, registered her 15th career goal.
