HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team cruised to its third-consecutive shutout on Sunday afternoon, defeating Robert Morris, 2-0, on a pair of second-half goals from
Jessica Frey and
Erin Sutton at NKU Soccer Complex.
The clean sheet was Northern Kentucky's fifth in the last six contests.
"After the EKU game we realized that we needed to go back to individual and small-group defending and our players have really embraced that," said head coach
Bob Sheehan. "We have worked so much harder on the fundamentals and communicating with one another and we have continued to evolve as a defensive team overall. I'm really pleased with their efforts."
With the win, NKU is over .500 for the first time this season with a 5-4-0 overall record. Robert Morris dips to 2-7-0.
NKU Scoring Summary
- Less than a minute into the second half, Frey took an assist from Macy Hamblin inside the box and scored on a contested slide past the goalie from four yards out. The goal was Frey's third in the last two games.
- Hamblin notched another assist on NKU's second goal, which came just four minutes later. Sutton received a cross from Hamblin and tapped it in from the far right post for NKU's 2-0 advantage in the 50th minute.
Between the Posts
- Emily Lohmann was credited with her fourth solo shutout of the season. The sophomore made one save in the opening stanza, aided by a strong Norse back line.
- Lohmann made a pair of saves in the second half for three total on eight shots faced.
- RMU goalkeeper Makenzie Shearson had five saves in her full 90 minutes of play.

- NKU was the aggressor out of the gate, racking up four shots in the first 15 minutes split evenly between Hamblin and Frey.

- NKU has out-shot its opponents 91-55 overall across the last six games including 37-16 in shots on goal.
- Sami Rutowski and Chrissy Spears played all 90 minutes for the NKU defense to help post the shutout.
- Frey has scored at least one goal in each of the last three games to propel the junior to a team-best nine points. She posted three goals and one assist for seven points across a pair of games this weekend.
- Hamblin posted six points on the weekend after scoring twice at Green Bay and dishing out both assists against the Colonials.
