Falcons sweep @NKUNorseVB in BGSU Invitational

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green took down Northern Kentucky in straight sets on Saturday evening, 32-30, 25-9, 25-14. The Norse fall to 3-2 on the season, while BGSU advances to 3-2. Following the match, redshirt-senior libero Lauren Hurley was named to the all-tournament team.
 
First Set Summary
  • The opening set would prove to be the most competitive of the three, with the Norse and the Falcons battling out a marathon set that saw BGSU edge out NKU, 32-30.
  • The Norse hit .107 off 18 kills in the opening set, while Bowling Green hit .241 off 16 kills, with the difference being BGSU's three errors to NKU's 12.
  • Senior outside hitter Tristen Simpson and sophomore outside hitter Haley Libs paced the offense, each tallying five kills in the first set.
  • Hurley and redshirt-senior setter Taylor Snyder were strongholds for the Norse on defense, with both recording seven digs.

  • Siding out continued to be a formidable task for NKU in the third set, which sealed the defeat at 25-14. NKU was able to score on only 11 of BGSU's 24 serves.
  • Senior middle hitter Keely Creamer posted four kills to lead the Norse in the closing frame.
  • NKU hit .133 as a team, while BGSU had its best offensive set at .600.

  • Creamer paced the offense with nine kills overall to go with two blocks, followed by eight kills by Simpson.
  • Snyder dished out 26 assists and was just shy of a double-double with eight digs.
  • Hurley totaled a match-high 15 digs.
  • The team hit .054 for the match, marking the second time this season that the Norse have gone below a .100 clip.
  • The match is also the second time this season that an opponent has hit above .350, with BGSU owning a .384 hitting percentage. Both other instances were against Indiana (.079-.412).

  • The Norse will remain in the Bluegrass State for their next tournament, traveling to Morehead, Ky., on Sept. 9-10. NKU will play Ball State and Appalachian State on Friday, followed by host Morehead State on Saturday.
