@NKUNorseWBB drops 70-63 decision to Wright State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell on Saturday to Horizon League foe Wright State, 70-63. With the setback, the Norse dip to 5-12 on the season and 1-4 in League action, while the Raiders move to 12-5 (4-1 HL).
 
Stat Leaders
  • Junior guard Mikayla Terry led all scorers with 20 points for the third 20-point game of her career. Terry also tied for the team lead in steals, with two.
  • Senior guard Kelley Wiegman added 12 points, bolstered by two 3-pointers and a 4-of-5 performance from free throw range.
  • Junior guard Kasey Uetrecht was the third Norse in double figures with 10 points.
  • Senior guard Shar'Rae Davis led the team in rebounding (8), assists (4), blocks (2) and tied for the lead in steals, with two.
 
First Half Summary
  • NKU opened up with quick scoring in the first quarter, using a 7-0 run to take an 11-10 lead over the Raiders.
  • Wright State picked up the pace in the second quarter, outscoring NKU 22-16. Wiegman hit back-to-back 3-pointers to close the scoring gap to 21-24 at the 3:03 mark, but WSU went on an 8-4 run to close out the half and lead 32-27.
  • Wright State shot 46.7 percent in the opening half, while NKU was 34.6 percent from the field.
  • Terry all players in scoring with 11 points followed by Uetrecht with eight points. On the boards, Davis and Lyttle both grabbed six rebounds apiece, while Davis also registered three assists, a block and a steal.
 
Second Half Summary
  • Wright State extended the lead even further with a 20-13 third quarter, shooting 56.3 percent in the stanza. The Norse were also efficient at 5-of-9 for 55.6 percent, but the Raiders were able to put up nearly twice the amount of shots.
  • NKU was able to come within four points of the Raiders, trailing 59-54 at the 4:17 mark, thanks to a pair of steals from Davis and Terry. However, with a minute to play the Norse were back to a double-digit deficit at 65-55.
  • Wright State finished up the fourth quarter with a 60.0 shooting percentage, while NKU was also efficient at 50.0 percent from the field.
 
Norse Notes
  • NKU retains the lead in the all-time series with Wright State, but falls to 12-5 against the Raiders.
  • The Norse capitalized on Wright State's 10 turnovers and scored 18 points, compared to 15 points off NKU's 13 miscues.
  • WSU's difference maker in the contest was a 46-26 advantage in the paint. The Raiders also out-rebounded the Norse, 35-31, and scored 18 second-chance points compared to seven for NKU.
  • NKU shot 43.1 percent from the field for the entire game, well above the season average of .368, but the Raiders went 29-of-56 from the floor for 51.8 percent.
