HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team fell to Kent State by a final score of 59-54 on Saturday afternoon. This was the team's opening game of the 2017-18 season.
STAT LEADERS
- Molly Glick led the Norse with 15 points.
- Grace White contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
- Kailey Coffey had 12 rebounds to lead all players.
- Kent State's Jordan Korinek led all scorers with 29 points.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Molly Glick scored eight points in the first 2:43 of the game to help NKU take a 9-5 lead.
- Kent State then went on an 8-0 run, putting the score at 13-9 in favor of the visitors.
- The Norse closed the first quarter with a 9-2 run to take a 18-15 lead into the second quarter.
- Things were even in the early part of the second quarter, but the Norse went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-22 lead. NKU had a 34-25 lead to end the half.
- NKU shot 12-of-25 (48%) from the floor in the first half.
- The Norse outrebounded the Golden Flashes 21-7 in the first half, which included eight offensive rebounds for the Norse.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Kent State clawed its way back into the game in the third quarter. A 7-0 run near the end of the quarter helped the Golden Flashes cut the Norse lead to 45-41.
- In the fourth quarter Kent State went on an 8-0 on run to take a 49-45 lead, holding NKU without a field goal for 10 minutes.
- Trailing by five, NKU's Grace White hit a three-pointer to put the Norse within two points. However, that was all the closer the Norse would get, as Kent State went on to win the game by a final score of 59-54.
- The Norse struggled offensively in the half, shooting only 6-of-33 (18.2%) from the field.
NORSE NOTES
- NKU outrebounded Kent State 46-31 in the game. The Norse had 17 offensive rebounds in the contest.
- Kent State went 20-of-29 (69.0%) from the free throw line in the game.
- After outscoring Kent State 34-25 in the first half, NKU was outscored by the Golden Flashes 34-20 in the second half.
