Fast start helps Robert Morris get past @NKUNorseWBB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team fell to two-time reigning Northeast Conference champion Robert Morris on Tuesday by a final score of 59-50. With the loss, NKU drops to 0-4 while the Colonials picked up their first win of the season at 1-2.  

STAT LEADERS

  • Grayson Rose led NKU with a career-best 12 points, and she also had five rebounds in the contest. The rookie center took full advantage of Robert Morris' fouls down low, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
  • Mikayla Terry added nine points, three steals and dished out three assists.
  • Samari Mowbray had another strong all-around game for the Norse with six points, five rebounds and three steals.

FIRST HALF SUMMARY

  • Robert Morris led 19-9 after the first quarter and extended its lead to as much as 16 in the first half.
  • NKU battled back, as each team scored 11 points in the second quarter for a 30-20 RMU advantage at the end of the half.
  • Robert Morris shot 13-of-31 (41.9%) in the half, while NKU went 5-of-19 (26.3%) from the floor.
  • The Colonials had a slight advantage on rebounds at 18-15, and controlled the paint offensively with 22 points in the key.  

SECOND HALF SUMMARY

  • NKU got within six points at 30-24, thanks to a 10-0 run which began at the 3:17 mark in the second quarter.
  • Robert Morris was able to build its lead back up to take a 41-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.
  • The Colonials were ahead by 14 in the fourth quarter, but NKU went on an 8-0 run to get within six points at 50-44.
  • However, good free throw shooting down the stretch by Robert Morris allowed the Colonials to take the game by a final score of 59-50. The Colonials went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe in the final 1:37 of the contest.
  • Robert Morris went 9-of-20 (45.0%) in the second half, while NKU shot 7-of-27 (25.9%).

NORSE NOTES

  • NKU played in front of a crowd of 4,844 during Victor's Hoops 4 Health, which promotes health education for local elementary schools.
  • The Norse got to the free throw line often during the game, shooting 25-of-38 (65.8%).
  • NKU had eight different players score in the game.
  • Though trailing on the boards at the half, NKU ended the game out-rebounding the Colonials 40-31. The Norse had 19 offensive rebounds, which converted into 18 second chance points.
  • NKU kept its turnovers lower than previous contests with 17 miscues compared to 16 for Robert Morris. The Norse also played cleaner defense, committing just 14 fouls.

  • NKU hosts Oakland City on Saturday, Nov. 25. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at BB&T Arena, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
