JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team fell in a neutral site game to former Atlantic Sun opponent Jacksonville on Wednesday afternoon, 61-49. The Norse drop to 1-9 with the loss, while the Dolphins advance to 9-4.
STAT LEADERS
- Kailey Coffey led NKU with 14 points, with 11 of those coming in the fourth quarter alone. Coffey also added six rebounds to pace the Norse on the boards.
- Samari Mowbray had her second-straight double-digit scoring effort with 12 points and added three steals.
- Grace White chipped in seven points and dished out two assists.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Despite a 7-0 run by Jacksonville early in the first quarter, the Norse kept pace with the Dolphins and exchanged the lead three times. Mowbray scored four of her points in the frame as NKU trailed 16-13.
- However, Jacksonville outscored the Norse 12-5, with all five points coming from Jazmyne Geist, in the second to hold a 28-18 lead at the half.
- Jacksonville was aggressive on the boards with a 21-10 rebounding edge, including a rare 10 offensive rebounds allowed
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Following a low-scoring third half, NKU went on to outscore Jacksonville 22-20 in the final quarter, thanks in large part to Coffey in the post.
- The Norse closed the lead to as little as six, but necessary fouling allowed the Dolphins to extend back out to double digits.
- After being out-rebounded by 10 in the first half, Jacksonville was held to a smaller margin of just one board.
NORSE NOTES
- Jacksonville takes the lead in the all-time series, 5-4
- The Dolphins had a strong presence in the paint, outscoring the Norse 34-24 down low.
- Jacksonville also took advantage of NKU's turnovers, scoring 26 points off 23 turnovers.
- Both teams were held around the same shooting percentage, with Jacksonville going 21-of-56 (37.5%) from the field while NKU shot 17-of46 (37.0%).
