DETROIT – Northern Kentucky men's tennis dropped a tight match to Detroit Mercy on the road, with the Titans taking a 4-3 victory over the Norse. With the loss, NKU drops to 6-7 overall and 2-4 in League play, while UDM advances to 10-11 (4-1 HL).
Match Notables
- NKU won the doubles point with wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts. In No. 2 doubles, Court Clark and Mate Virag defeated Chance Conley and Patryk Koscielski, 6-2. The No. 3 tandem of Javier Araya and Andrew Niehaus remained undefeated as a pairing with a 6-4 win over Kacper Stelmaszak and Adam Zychowiscz to clinch the opening point.
- UDM was able to swing the lead in its favor, 3-1, with victories in No. 2, 5 and 6 singles.
- NKU tied it up again with a pair of wins in No. 3 and 4 singles. Araya claimed a three-set win over Nathan Ponton on Court 3, falling 6-1 in the first set before pushing a tiebreak set with a 6-3 win in the second set. The deciding set went extra games, with Araya claiming the win, 7-6.
- In No. 4 singles, Clark fell 6-4 to Kacper Stelmazak in the opening set before recording two straight set wins, 6-1, 6-4.
- The outcome of the dual fell to the No. 1 court, with Virag pitted against Artem Vasheshnikov. The Titan edged out Virag in the opening set, 7-6, before dropping the second set 6-4. Vashesnikov was able to clinch the dual in the third set, 6-4.
- The Norse host cross-river foe Xavier on Tuesday, April 18 at 4 p.m. at Yeager Tennis Complex before closing out the regular season on Saturday, April 22 against Wright State for Senior Day.
