@NKUNorseVB tunes up with exhibition against RedHawks

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky volleyball hosted Miami (Ohio) in an exhibition match on Saturday afternoon, playing five 25-point sets against the RedHawks. NKU claimed the first and fifth sets, 25-22 and 26-24, while the defending Mid-American Conference champions took the middle three games.
 
Norse Notes
  • NKU used the starting rotation of Shelby Olsen at setter, Kelly Turner at right side, Georgia Childers and Bailey Western at middle blocker, and Laura Crawford and Haley Libs at outside. Ashton Terrill sported the libero jersey to start, while McKenzie Eskridge also spent time as the back row general. Every member of the squad saw playing time, with NKU using four different starting lineups among the five sets.
  • Libs and Crawford led the team in kills, with Libs posting a double-double of 14 kills and a team-best 17 digs while Crawford had 12 kills over four sets.
  • Turner was just shy of double digits, with nine terminations to go with two blocks.
  • Childers led the team at the net with five of NKU's eight blocks.
  • Olsen had a double-double of 36 assists and 15 digs, and was efficient offensively with five kills on nine attempts.
  • Terrill and Eskridge went for double-digit digs as well, with Terrill scooping up 14 of Miami's attempts while Eskridge had 13 digs.
  • NKU's serving was a highlight for the team, with Terrill pacing the team with four aces. Crawford added three while Olsen also had two.
  • Miami was able to terminate at a higher rate, hitting .262 compared to .136 for the Norse. The RedHawks posted 71 kills compared to 52 for the Norse, but NKU was defensively solid with 84 digs in the exhibition.

  • NKU opens up the season on Aug. 25-26 at the Houston Baptist Invitational. The Norse will take on Texas Tech, Texas Southern and host Houston Baptist during the two-day tournament in Houston.
