@NKUNorseMSOC unbeaten streak extends to six matches

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw against Marshall on Wednesday night at NKU Soccer Stadium. The Norse are now 3-0-3 in the past six matches and 4-1-3 overall. Marshall's record moves to 5-1-2.

"We are starting to see some real resilience from this group, and tonight was the epitome of that," said NKU head coach Stu Riddle. "To come from behind twice at separate times against a great team was excellent, and we know we have nothing to fear moving forward."
 
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • The Norse tied the score at 1-1 in the 38th minute. Liam Evans made a pass from the top of the box to the right side. Jake Minkovitz secured the pass and beat the keeper to the right.
  • NKU evened the match once again in the 55th minute. Trailing 2-1, a Marshall foul in the box led to a Norse penalty kick. Brett Wilson converted from the spot to even the match at 2-2.
 
BETWEEN THE POSTS
  • Jim Barkei faced 17 shots and made six saves on the night. His record is also 4-1-3 on the year.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU had a great chance to score in the second minute. Rikard Lindqvist played a dangerous cross into the box, but Tom Suchecki was unable to get a foot on it.
  • Marshall went ahead 1-0 in the fifth minute. An NKU handball resulted in a penalty kick, and Marshall's Brayan Lopez-Mendez converted from the spot to give the visitors the lead.
  • In the 10th minute, Lindqvist had another dangerous cross into the box, but NKU was not able to capitalize on the opportunity.
  • Minutes later, Wlademir Babaew's header attempt went wide left.
  • Barkei made his first save of the game in the 26th minute on a hard shot from Marshall's Carlos Diaz-Salcedo.
  • In the 34th minute, Marshall looked to score another goal, but it was disallowed because of an offside call.
  • Minkovitz evened the match in the 38th minute.
  • Marshall took the lead again in the 41st minute. A free kick was played into the box from the left side, and Pedro Dolabella put the ball into the back of the net.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Offensive chances were few and far in between in the second half. Marshall had three shots in the period, while the Norse had two.
  • Wilson converted from the spot for the Norse in the 55th minute to tie the match at 2-2.
  • Marshall's Jaime Izquierdo Roiz had two shots midway through the period but wasn't able to score.
  • Barkei made a save in the 76th minute on a Marshall header attempt.
  • In the 88th minute, Lindavist's shot attempt was blocked by the Marshall defense.

  • Barkei was forced to make a save in the 99th minute on another shot attempt by Knight.
  • In the 105th minute, the NKU defense blocked a shot from Lopez-Mendez to prevent him from scoring.
  • Harvey Moyes took a shot for the Norse in the 107th minute, but his attempt was blocked out of bounds.
  • The final shot of the match came in the 108th minute. Edo Durante got his head on a pass, but his attempt went to the right of the net.
 
MATCH NOTES
  • The Norse had four consecutive shutouts entering the match.
  • Minkovitz and Wilson each scored their first goals of the season. Liam Evans recorded his first assist of the year.
  • This is the first time the Norse have scored two goals in a match since a 2-1 win over Fort Wayne on Aug. 31.
