@NKUNorseWBB storms back to defeat UIC in overtime, 61-53

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Trailing by as many as 19 points in the second half, the Northern Kentucky women's basketball team stormed back to tie the game late in regulation and defeated UIC in overtime by a final score of 61-53. The Norse move to 5-14 overall and 3-5 in the Horizon League. UIC falls to 7-12 overall and 0-8 in League play.

STAT LEADERS
  • Kailey Coffey notched a double-double with a career-best 19 points and 12 rebounds. She scored 14 of her points in the fourth quarter and overtime periods.
  • Mikayla Terry added 16 points and three steals on the afternoon.
  • Molly Glick scored 13 points, which included 10 in the fourth quarter and overtime periods. Glick also had a season-best four steals in the contest.

FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse had a 15-13 lead after the first quarter. Terry scored nine points in the period.
  • UIC started the second quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 22-15 lead. The Flames went into halftime with a 25-18 advantage.
  • NKU shot 8-of-28 (28.6%) from the floor during the half, and UIC went 10-of-30 (33.3%) on field goals.
  • The Norse had a 14-12 advantage in points in the paint.
  • NKU also had a 20-19 rebounding advantage, thanks in part to Coffey pulling down nine rebounds in the half.

  • UIC started the third quarter on a 10-0 run to extend its lead to 35-18.
  • The Flames led by as many as 19 and had a 43-26 advantage after the third quarter.
  • NKU stormed back in the fourth quarter, thanks in part to a 10-0 run. NKU outscored UIC 24-7 in the quarter.
  • Taryn Taugher knocked down a pair of free throws with 19.2 seconds left in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 50-50.
  • Coffey scored nine points in the fourth quarter for NKU.

  • Coffey gave the Norse a 53-51 lead with 3:15 to play in the overtime period.
  • After UIC tied the game at 53-53, Coffey once again came through with another bucket to put NKU ahead 55-53.
  • A layup by Jazmyne Geist extended the lead to 57-53 with 59 seconds to play, and Glick had two steals and two layups in the closing seconds to give NKU the 61-53 win.
