INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky volleyball bounced back from its previous loss with a four-set win on the road at IUPUI, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-14. The Norse move to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in the Horizon League while the Jaguars drop to 5-17 (2-6 HL).
First Set Summary
- NKU and IUPUI traded points for the majority of the opening set until the Jaguars went on a 4-1 run to pull ahead, 20-17, after a pair of Norse errors and an IUPUI ace. The Norse fought off one set point off a kill from Natalie Hardig, but the Jaguars converted on the following point to take the frame.
- Hardig led the offense with four kills on five swings and chipped in three blocks.
- Anna Brinkmann and Bailey Western each added three kills off seven swings, and Ashton Terrill led the defense with five digs.
Second Set Summary
- The second set mimicked the first, with the exception that it was the Norse that pulled ahead after the 20-point mark. NKU ended the set on a 4-0 run with kills from Laura Crawford and Hardig and back-to-back aces from Haley Libs following an IUPUI timeout.
- Libs terminated at a .600 clip with six kills to pace the Norse, while Crawford added four kills.
- Terrill and Shelby Olsen picked up five digs apiece in the back row.
Third Set Summary
- NKU's left pins ran the show in the third as Brinkmann put away 11 kills and Libs had five kills to go with five digs.
- IUPUI battled back with back-to-back blocks and an ace to take a 16-14 lead, but the Norse regrouped and tied up the set at 19-19 off a kill from Kaelin Gentile. An assisted block from Western and Libs pushed momentum in favor of the Norse and NKU claimed the set off another attacking error from IUPUI.
Fourth Set Summary
- NKU came out in control to start the final set, quickly establishing a substantial point cushion. The Norse were unfazed after committing three-straight errors near the close of the frame and ended the set on kills from Western and Libs.
- Libs had five kills and no errors on eight swings to lead the offense, adding seven digs to her stat line.
- Terrill posted nine digs and the Norse back line out-dug the Jaguars 25-17.
- NKU held IUPUI to a .000 hitting percentage while connecting at a .297 clip for the highest hitting percentage of the match.
Norse Notes
- Libs posted her 10th-straight double-double with 17 kills and 17 digs. She also added two aces.
- Brinkmann had a double-double of 14 kills and 13 digs for her fourth of the season.
- Olsen ran a 5-1 for the first time this season and dished out 42 assists, adding 10 digs for her 12th double-double of the year. Olsen had two aces as well.
- Crawford was just off a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. She also led the team with five blocks.
- Terrill scooped up 22 digs and led the team from the service line with three aces.
- Maddy Weber stepped in to set when the Norse served in rotation 4 while Gentile subbed in to block for Olsen. Weber dished out six assists while helping the Norse go on multiple serving runs.
- The Norse hit .230 as a team and held IUPUI to a .153 clip. NKU also out-dug the Jaguars, 78-62, but IUPUI held an 11.0-7.0 edge in blocks.
