Late goal by Kailey Ivins helps @NKUNorseWSOC get past Oakland, 2-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team defeated Oakland on Wednesday evening by a final score of 2-1. Kailey Ivins scored in the 87th minute to help the Norse get the victory. NKU improves to 9-4-1 overall and 5-1-1 in Horizon League play. Oakland falls to 1-11-3 and 1-3-3 in the league.
 
"Our players competed for the entire 90 minutes in yet another highly competitive Horizon League match," said NKU head coach Bob Sheehan. "Ally Perkins provided a quality serve, which Sam Duwel finished nicely for the first goal. Shawna Zaken did very well to find Kailey Ivins in the box late in the game. Kailey stayed with the play and scored a terrific goal for the game-winner. Our back line was very good again tonight. We are pleased to earn the three points."
 
 
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
  • Duwel gave the Norse a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Emily Soltes played a ball outside to Perkins, and she immediately crossed it in the box. Duwel was in the box and headed the ball past the Oakland goalkeeper to put NKU ahead.
  • After Oakland tied the match in the 83rd minute, Ivins responded with a goal in the 87th minute to give the Norse a 2-1 lead. Zaken played a cross from the left side to Ivins, and she put her shot to the right of the Oakland goalkeeper to seal the win for NKU.

  • Emily Lohmann played the entire 90 minutes in the net for the Norse. She faced five shots and made one save.

  • Duwel's goal was her fifth of the season. She now has 15 points this year, which is tied for the team lead with Zaken.
  • NKU had an 11-5 shot advantage in the match.
