HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team defeated Cleveland State in exciting fashion on Saturday by a final score of 2-1.
Tom Suchecki scored with 57 seconds left to lift the Norse to victory. NKU moves to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in the Horizon League. CSU falls to 4-7-2 on the year and 1-3-2 in the league.
"It was an absolutely magnificent result!," said NKU head coach
Stu Riddle. "I am very proud of the lads to dig deep in a very difficult situation and find a way to pick up a vital three points in Horizon League play. It was fitting that two seniors linked up for the winning goal, and I'm delighted we got a win for all seven of the seniors on senior day."
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
- Alex Willis put the Norse ahead 1-0 in the 30th minute. Abdul Kooistra played a ball up the field to Willis, and he put his shot into the lower right corner.
- With the score tied 1-1, Suchecki scored with 57 seconds left to give NKU a 2-1 lead. Rizwaan Dharsey passed the ball over to Suchecki, and his shot from close range went past the Vikings' goalkeeper.

- Jim Barkei faced nine shots and made three saves in the win. He improves to 8-2 on the season.

- The Norse were forced to play with 10 men in the 66th minute after a second yellow card was issued to Felix Komolong.
- In the 84th minute, the Vikings' Hayden Parente found some space in the box, but he put his shot high of the frame.
- CSU evened the match at 1-1 in the 87th minute. Lawrence Karpeh dribbled the from the right side near the end line and passed to Parente. Parente slipped his shot past Barkei to tie the match.
- Suchecki scored with 57 seconds left to lift NKU to victory.
MATCH NOTES
- Cleveland State had a 12-9 shot advantage.
- NKU recorded five corner kicks in the contest, compared to four for the Vikings.
