@NKUNorseVB snaps losing skid with sweep of IUPUI

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky volleyball ended a three-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a sweep of IUPUI, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21. With the win, NKU improves to 14-8 overall and 6-5 in Horizon League play while the Jaguars dip to 5-21 (2-10 HL).
 


First Set Summary
  • Shelby Olsen and Miranda Wucherer ran arguably their most balanced offense of the season in the opening set, as five different Norse had three kills. NKU put down 17 kills on 30 attempts and hit .500 in the opening frame.
  • The Norse were also well balanced on defense with Olsen, Haley Libs, Anna Brinkmann and Ashton Terrill each registering three digs while Bailey Western and Wucherer had two blocks each.
  • NKU ended the set on a 5-1 run thanks to three kills from Laura Crawford and one each from Western and Brinkmann.
 
Second Set Summary
  • IUPUI came out aggressively in the second set, but two key runs allowed the Norse to pull ahead, 19-13 and take control of the game's pace.
  • The Norse had another efficient set, hitting .361. Western led the way with five kills on six swings, while Brinkmann and Libs each chipped in four kills.
  • Terrill and Olsen led the back row with four digs each.
 
Third Set Summary
  • IUPUI was held to a -.080 hitting percentage in the final set in a high-error showing on both sides. The two teams had combined for just 15 errors throughout the first two sets, but posted a combined 23 miscues in the deciding set alone.
  • Libs had five kills and eight digs, while Olsen and Terrill added eight and seven digs, respectively.
 
  
Norse Notes
  • Libs and Olsen kept their double-double streaks alive as Libs recorded 12 kills and 13 digs for her 14th-straight double-double while Olsen had 17 assists and 15 digs for her eighth-straight. Olsen also added two aces to lead the Norse from the service line.
  • Western also hit double digits in kills, with 10 terminations on 20 swings and added two blocks.
  • Brinkmann was just off 10 kills, putting away nine at a .316 clip.
  • Wucherer dished out 24 assists and tied her career best of four blocks in the victory.
  • Terrill added 14 digs in the back row.
 
Up Next
  • The Norse look to take a win from Wright State in a rematch of their five-set loss from two weeks ago. First serve against the Raiders is scheduled for 2 p.m. tomorrow and the match will also be the team's Pink Game with a post-match youth clinic free to participants age 12 and under.
