@NKUNorseVB sweeps Penguins in mid-week match

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky volleyball picked up its third-straight win on Wednesday evening with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-10 victory over Youngstown State. The Norse move to 16-8 overall and 8-5 in Horizon League play while the Penguins drop to 7-19 (1-12 HL).

  • The Norse defense kept Youngstown State to a .075 hitting percentage in the second set while Brinkmann went off for five kills on 10 attempts to go with five digs.
  • Hardig played a large part in keeping the Penguins off balance as she registered three blocks for NKU.
 
Third Set Summary
  • The Norse nearly kept an opponent under 10 points for the first time since 2015 in a dominant final set over the Penguins. YSU hit at a .029 clip and was held to just six kills while the Norse terminated 15 balls at a .379 hitting percentage.
  • Hardig led the way offensively with four kills on five swings, and Brinkmann added three kills and a pair of aces.
  • Libs and Terrill held down the back row with five digs each as the Norse out-dug YSU, 20-10.
 
 
  
Norse Notes
  • Brinkmann was one dig shy of a double-double with 10 kills and nine digs. She also set a new career mark in aces, with five.
  • Miranda Wucherer was also close to a double-double with 17 assists and nine digs, and she tallied five kills at a .455 hitting percentage.
  • Hardig and Western both had seven kills, and Western led the Norse at the net with four blocks while Hardig had three.
  • NKU hit .365 for the match and held Youngstown State to a .079 hitting percentage, marking the fourth time this season that an opponent has been held under .100. When NKU swept the Penguins on the road on Oct. 3, YSU was held to .078.
  • With 18 assists, Shelby Olsen moved into NKU's all-time top-10 career assists list, surpassing Stacey Meimann. Olsen currently has 2,023 career assists.
