Hot-shooting Zips take down @NKUNorseWBB, 77-60

KENT, Ohio – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to Akron in a neutral-site game at the Kent State Classic, 77-60, after the Zips used a substantial run at the start of the second quarter to establish a sizable lead. The Norse fall to 1-2 overall while the Zips remain undefeated at 3-0.
 
STAT LEADERS
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Akron started off the contest with an 8-0 run, but NKU answered back later with a 7-0 run capped off by a triple from Archer.
  • The Norse trailed by just four at the end of the first quarter, but the Zips opened up the second period with a 12-0 run.
  • Akron went 16-for-31 from the field for a 51.6 percent field-goal percentage, while the Norse went 5-for-27 for 25.0 percent. The Norse held the edge on the glass, 21 rebounds to Akron's 18.
  • Souder and Archer led the Norse in scoring with six points each in the opening half.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse and the Zips went point-for-point in the third quarter, led by Glick's five points. NKU crashed the boards hard in the period, outrebounding Akron 16-9 and allowing just one offensive board for the Zips.
  • NKU shot 64.3 percent in the final period, outscoring the Zips 22-21 off a 9-of-14 shooting performance. Souder and Clos led the way for the Norse with seven points each.
  • NKU's shooting improved significantly from the first half, with the Norse going 16-for-37 for a 43.2 percent clip.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Akron had a highly-efficient showing, going 31-for-61 from the field (50.8%) and 12-for-30 from long range (40.0%).
  • NKU had the edge in rebounding, 40-34, and once again held its opponent under seven offensive rebounds. Akron was allowed just seven offensive boards, resulting in only five second-chance points.
  • The Zips held the slight edge in the paint, 28-26, but were successful in transition with 24 fast-break points while the Norse had nine.
  • The Norse bench outscored Akron's reserves, 41-22.
