Cincinnati gets past @NKUNorseMBB on Tuesday, 78-65

CINCINNATI – The Northern Kentucky University men's basketball team fell to Cincinnati on Tuesday evening by a final score of 78-65. The Bearcats improve to 8-1 overall, and NKU drops to 8-2.
 
STATS LEADERS
  • Tyler Sharpe led the Norse with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a 4-of-7 mark from the three-point line.
  • Jalen Tate added 13 points, three rebounds and three assists.
  • Drew McDonald just missed out on a double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.
  • Dantez Walton and Zaynah Robinson also added eight points.
 
TURNING POINT
  • A 14-0 run in the first half gave UC a 27-13 lead. The Norse couldn't overcome the deficit.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The score was tied 13-13 with 12:58 to play in the half. UC proceeded to go on a 14-0 run to take a 27-13 lead.
  • The Bearcats maintained their lead and went ahead 45-28 at halftime.
  • UC shot 13-of-31 (41.9 percent) from the floor and 16-of-18 (88.9 percent) on free throws.
  • NKU went 11-of-30 (36.7 percent) on field goals.
  • Tate led the Norse with nine points, and Walton added six points.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse cut the UC lead to 12 on three different occasions, but they would not get any closer down the stretch.
  • NKU outscored UC 37-33 in the half.
  • Sharpe hit three 3-pointers for NKU in the final 2:17 of the game.
  • Sharpe had 11 points, and McDonald scored all eight of his points in the half.
  • The Bearcats shot 11-of-21 (52.4 percent) on field goals, but just 1-of-5 from the three-point line.
  • NKU went 13-of-30 (43.3 percent) from the floor in the period, including a 7-of-13 (53.8 percent) effort from 3-point range.
 
GAME NOTES
  • UC finished the game shooting 24-of-52 (46.2 percent) on field goals and 26-of-33 (78.8 percent) on free throws.
  • NKU went 24-of-60 (40.0 percent) from the floor and 11-of-25 (44.0 percent) on three-point attempts.
  • McDonald needs just two more two more rebounds to become the all-time leader at NKU. He currently has 858, one behind LaRon Moore's school record.
  • With Sharpe's 16 points tonight, the junior guard has now reached double figures in each of the last five games, over which he is averaging 17.2 points per outing.
