ULM defeats @NKUNorseBSB on Saturday afternoon

MONROE, La. – The Louisiana Monroe baseball team defeated Northern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 21-9. ULM moves to 6-1 on the year, and NKU is now 1-5.

KEY MOMENTS
  • ULM scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-0 lead. The biggest play in the inning came from the Warhawks' Evian Benjamin, who hit a double down the left field line to score three runs.  
  • The Warhawks added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning to go ahead 10-0.  
  • Mike Moffatt and Dominic Mercurio both reached base for NKU in the fourth inning, and Doersching stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run homer to make the score 10-3.
  • ULM crossed the plate four times in the bottom half of the fourth.
  • The Norse got two runs in the fifth inning. Chad Roberts' double scored Paradis in the frame, and Moffatt's RBI groundout allowed Brendan Alas to cross the plate to make the score 14-5.
  • ULM added another run in the bottom half of the fifth to extend its lead to 15-5.
  • Collin Hohman nearly hit a solo home run for NKU in the top of the sixth inning, but the ULM left fielder made a nice catch to prevent the ball from going out of the park.  
  • ULM's Peyton Lacoste hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Later in the inning, Braedon Barrett hit a grand slam.
  • NKU loaded the bases in the eighth inning, and Shane Paradis hit a single through the right side to score two runs to make the score 20-7.
  • The Warhawks scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • Haueter hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • The Norse had nine hits on the afternoon, and ULM had 16.
  • ULM had an error in the field, and NKU committed four errors.
  • Haueter has now hit safely in six-straight games.
  • McAninch made his collegiate debut in the game.
