@NKUNorseBSB falls late to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Cincinnati on Tuesday by a final score of 5-3. UC hit a walkoff home run in the ninth inning of the contest.

AT THE PLATE
  • Nolan Rattai went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI.
  • Will Haueter was 2-for-3 in the contest.
  • TJ Marik had a 2-for-4 day in the batter's box, and he scored a run.
ON THE MOUND
  • Brody Basilone got the start for the Norse, and he pitched five shutout innings, while allowing just four hits and striking out three batters.
  • Kyle Service pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, and Joe Martin and Cameron Ross also saw action on the mound.
KEY MOMENTS
  • The Norse scored three runs in the top of the second inning. Preston Pilat and TJ Marik hit back-to-back singles in the inning. Shane Paradis then walked to load the bases. Pilat scored on a wild pitch, and Marik and Paradis advanced to third and second base, respectively. Nolan Rattai singled up the middle to score both Marik and Paradis to make the score 3-0.  
  • The Bearcats got two runs back in the bottom of the eighth inning. Manny Rodriguez's single brought home two runs to get UC within one run at 3-2.
  • UC's Treg Haberkorn hit a walkoff three-run homer in the ninth to get the 5-3 victory.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Haueter is now on a seven-game hitting streak.
  • UC had 10 hits in the contest, and NKU had nine.
  • Neither team committed an error in the field.
UP NEXT
  • The Norse will travel to Lipscomb for a four-game series beginning on Thursday.
