@NKUNorseWBB upends Milwaukee on the road

 
MILWAUKEE – Northern Kentucky women's basketball got out to a strong start against Horizon League foe Milwaukee and held off a barrage of 3-pointers in the second half to secure a 60-57 victory. With the win, NKU moves 6-17 overall and 4-8 in league play while the Panthers drop to 17-7 (8-4 HL).
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Molly Glick paced NKU with 15 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Glick drained a trio of 3-pointers in the second half, marking her fourth-straight game with three or more 3-pointers.
  • Kailey Coffey recorded the third double-double of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Jazmyne Geist added a career-best 12 points.
  • Mikayla Terry was the fourth Norse to reach double figures with 10 points and four assists.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU had stifling defense in the opening half, holding Milwaukee to just 14.8 percent from the field on 4-of-27 shooting. The Norse held the Panthers without a field goal for the final 6:04 of the second quarter.
  • Milwaukee got within two points in the second quarter after a 3-pointer, 15-13, but the Norse retaliated with an 11-0 run with four points from both Geist and Coffey.
  • The Norse ended the half on a 14-2 run in the final five minutes.
  • NKU had 12 points in the paint and forced eight turnovers, converting them into 11 points.
  • The Norse defense featured a strong presence down low with five blocks, each committed by a different NKU player.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Panthers came out with a different look in the second half and hit five 3-pointers in the third quarter. Milwaukee added three more in the fourth, and shot 48.0 percent between the third and fourth periods.
  • The fourth quarter proved to be a battle with both teams shooting above 50.0 percent with three 3-pointers apiece.
  • Milwaukee got within two points off a fouled 3-pointer, converting all three shots from the charity stripe.
  • Terry pulled NKU ahead by three with a free throw with 5.0 seconds remaining, and Coffey prevented overtime with a blocked shot at the buzzer.
NORSE NOTES
  • The win was just the second in the all-time history against Milwaukee. It was the first time that NKU had won in Milwaukee.
  • NKU shot 45.7 percent for the contest and held UWM to 31.4 percent from the field.
  • The Norse held a firm advantage in the paint, 24-8, and converted 16 points off Milwaukee's 11 turnovers.
  • NKU assisted on 11-of-21 field goals.
  • The rebound battle was deadlocked at 33 against the Horizon League's top rebound margin team.
  • NKU never trailed for the entirety of the match, leading from the first bucket 28 seconds into the game.
