@NKUNorseBSB splits Sunday doubleheader with UIC

CHICAGO - The Northern Kentucky University baseball split a doubleheader with UIC on Sunday. The Flames won the first game by a score of 5-0. The Norse responded by winning the second game, 6-1, in 10 innings. NKU is now 4-14 overall and 1-2 in Horizon League play. UIC is 13-5 on the season and 2-1 in the league.

KEY MOMENTS
  • UIC took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dominic Smith's ground rule double allowed Thomas Smart to score in the frame.
  • The Flames added four runs in the seventh inning to go ahead 5-0. UIC's Thomas Norton hit a three-run homer in the inning.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Each team had seven hits in the contest.
  • Neither team committed an error.
  • NKU stranded seven runners, and UIC left three runners on base.

  • Brody Basilone got the start on the mound. He pitched six innings, allowing just four hits and an unearned run.
  • Kyle Service got the win for the Norse. He went three innings, allowing just two hits.
  • Joe Martin came on to pitch in the 10th inning, and he didn't allow a hit.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Richmond led off game two with a solo home run to left field to give NKU a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
  • UIC tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dominic Smith's sacrifice fly allowed Ryan Lin-Peistrup to score in the frame.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the 10th inning, Moffatt hit a single to third base, and Cole Heavilin scored on the play to give NKU a 2-1 lead. Haueter then stepped up to the plate and delivered a single through the left side to bring home Richmond and Collin Hohman. Moffatt later scored in the inning on a wild pitch, giving the Norse a 5-1 lead. Haueter crossed the plate in the frame on Dominic Mercurio's double down the left field line to give the Norse the 6-1 advantage.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU had nine hits in the contest, compared to six for UIC.
  • Both teams left six runners on base.
  • The Norse had two errors in the contest, and UIC had one.
