No. 21 Louisville defeats @NKUNorseBSB, 7-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to No. 21 Louisville on Tuesday evening by a final score of 7-2. The Cardinals were ranked in the latest Collegiate Baseball poll. Louisville moves to 21-11 overall, while NKU is 7-21 on the season.  
 
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Pat Kelley got the start on the mound for the Norse.
  • Joe Martin pitched 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one hit.
  • Travis Rowland allowed just one run in two innings of work.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Doersching hit a double down the left field line to score Haueter and Chad Roberts to give the Norse a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
  • Louisville tied the game in the bottom of the second. Danny Oriente's single allowed Josh Stowers to cross the plate and make the score 2-1. Oriente later scored in the inning on a throwing error to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Cardinals scored three times in the bottom of the third to go ahead 5-2.
  • Louisville's Lucas Dunn hit a sacrifice fly to give the team a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Oriente hit a RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to extend the Cardinals' lead to 7-2.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • This is the second time the Norse have played a ranked opponent this season. NKU previously defeated No. 6 Kentucky on March 7.
  • The Cardinals had 13 hits in the contest, and NKU had three.
  • Louisville stranded nine runners, and the Norse left six on base.
