@NKUNorseSB drops series finale to UIC

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky softball fell to UIC in the finale of a three-game series, 7-3. The Norse dip to 17-16 overall and 4-7 in Horizon League play, while the Flames move to 20-15 (9-3 HL) after sweeping the set.
  
At the Plate
  • UIC had a slight edge at the dish, out-hitting the Norse 9-8. NKU also drew six walks, while the Flames drew seven.
  • Both Sydney Ferrante and Ava Lawson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Norse. Ferrante was involved in each of NKU's runs, driving in one and scoring two of her own. Lawson drove Ferrante in on both of her runs scored.
  • Josie Frazier plated a run for the Norse, going 1-for-4, and Taylor Brummell was 1-for-2.
 
In the Circle
  • Ashlynn Roberts started for the Norse and fell to 7-5 with the loss. She tossed the first 1.22 innings for NKU.
  • Taylor Ginther pitched the final 5.1 innings in relief, walking two and striking out none.
 
Scoring Summary
  • UIC struck first in the opening frame with an unearned run, and the Norse reciprocated with a run in the bottom of the inning when Ferrante drove Frazier in off a single to left center. Right as the play ended, a downpour started and the game was put on a two-hour rain delay.
  • In the second inning, UIC plated three runs off a two-RBI triple and an RBI groundout. The Flames added three more to their count in the third before being held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
  • NKU added a run in the bottom of the third off a trio of singles from Ferrante, Brummell, and finally Lawson, who drove Ferrante across the plate.
  • Lawson and Ferrante repeated the scoring combination in the seventh, when Ferrante singled to left field to reach base and was sent home by a single to center field from Lawson.
 
Up Next
  • NKU will host a doubleheader against Oakland on Tuesday, April 17. The pair of games replaces a previously-scheduled three-game series with the Golden Grizzlies that was postponed due to inclement weather. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
