Ninth inning lifts UIC past @NKUNorseBSB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to UIC on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 11-6. UIC scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to get the victory. The Flames improve to 19-13 overall and 7-7 in the Horizon League. NKU is 10-26 on the season and 5-12 in league play.
 
 
AT THE PLATE  
 
ON THE MOUND
  • Sam Williams got the start on the mound. He pitched four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on just three hits.
  • Kyle Service pitched two scoreless innings relief. He allowed just four hits.
  • Joe Martin closed out the last three innings and took the loss. He gave up seven runs, but only one was earned.
 
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • UIC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Bowen Ogata hit an RBI double in the inning.
  • The Flames added three runs in the fourth inning. Derrick Patrick hit a two-run single, and Aaron Ackerman brought home a run with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Norse got two runs back in the bottom of the fourth. Pilat hit an RBI double, which allowed Roberts to score. Later in the inning, Pilat came home on a single up the middle by Heavilin.
  • UIC scored a run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-2 lead. David Becker hit a sacrifice fly, which allowed Dominic Smith to cross the plate.
  • In the bottom of the eighth inning, Roberts hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5. One at-bat later, Alas hit a solo shot over the left field wall to give the Norse a 6-5 lead.
  • UIC crossed the plate six times in the top of the ninth to take the 11-6 lead. The Flames took advantage of two Norse errors in the inning.
 
 
NORSE NOTES
  • UIC had 12 hits in the game, and NKU had nine.
  • The Norse committed three errors, and UIC had one.
  • UIC left 13 runners on base, and NKU stranded six.
