ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team defeated Oakland on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 9-6 to win the weekend series. NKU moves to 12-29 on the year and 7-14 in the Horizon League. The Golden Grizzlies fall to 12-27 overall and 9-11 in the Horizon League.
 
AT THE PLATE

• Nolan Rattai was 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
• Dominic Mercurio went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored.
• Chad Roberts was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs scored.
• Will Haueter also went 2-for-5. He added two runs scored and an RBI.
• Mike Moffatt was 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored.

 
ON THE MOUND

• Sam Williams got the start and earned the win on the mound. He pitched five innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits.
• Travis Rowland pitched 3.2 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one unearned run on two hits.
• Joe Martin got the save for retiring the final Oakland batter.

 
 
KEY MOMENTS

• The Norse took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Andrew Bacon reached on a fielding error by the Oakland right fielder to start the game, and he crossed the plate on an RBI double by Haueter. Haueter later scored in the inning when Griffin Doersching reached on a fielding error by the Oakland center fielder.
• NKU added three runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-0. Mercurio hit a single to start the inning, and he moved to third base when Roberts's single was misplayed by the Oakland right fielder. Mercurio crossed the plate on a wild pitch in the next at-bat, which allowed Roberts to move to third base. Roberts also scored on a wild pitch in the frame. Moffatt then doubled to left field, and he scored on an RBI single by Rattai.
• Oakland scored three times in the bottom of the third to make the score 5-3. The biggest hit in the inning came on Tyler Trovinger's two-RBI double.
• The Norse hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 9-3 lead. Roberts hit a three-run homer, and Doersching followed in the next at-bat with a solo home run.
• Trovinger hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth for Oakland to make the score 9-5.
• Oakland scored another run in the bottom of the ninth. Ryan Fitzgerald reached on an error, allowing Jordan Jackson to cross the plate and bring the score to 9-6.

 
NORSE NOTES

• NKU had 14 hits in the contest, and Oakland had nine.
• The Golden Grizzlies committed four errors in the contest, and NKU had two.
• The Norse left seven runners on base, and Oakland stranded six.
