@NKUNorseBSB falls to EKU on Tuesday afternoon, 12-9

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Eastern Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 12-9. The teams split their two games this season, as the Norse won the previous matchup on April 11. The Colonels move to 25-21 on the year, and NKU falls to 12-30.
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Pat Kelley took the loss on the mound. He allowed seven runs on nine hits.
  • Kyle Service came out of the bullpen, and he gave up four runs on six hits.
  • Nick Beard pitched 2.2 scoreless innings.
  • Kaleb Meeks allowed just one hit over 1.1 innings.
  • Joe Martin gave up a run on one hit in 1.1 innings of work.
 
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • EKU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Tyler Romanik hit a single to score Ryland Kerr in the frame.
  • Roberts hit a two-run homer in the bottom half of the first inning to give the Norse a 2-1 lead.
  • EKU crossed the plate six times in the third inning to go ahead 7-2. The Colonels had seven hits in the inning, including a two-run homer by Romanik.
  • Andrew Bacon led off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to make the score 7-3.
  • The Colonels added four runs on five hits in the fourth inning to take an 11-3 lead.
  • NKU scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Haueter had an RBI single in the frame, and Griffin Doersching hit an RBI double to make the score 11-5.
  • The Norse added four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Moffatt hit a three-run triple, and he came home on Shane Paradis' single to get NKU within two runs at 11-9.
  • Will Johnson hit a home run for EKU in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 12-9.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Haueter now has 15 multi-hit games on the season and has reached base safely in 21 straight games.
  • Roberts has recorded 12 multi-RBI games this year.
  • EKU had 19 hits, and NKU had 13.
  • Each team committed an error.
  • The Colonels stranded eight runners in the contest, and NKU left five on base.
