@NKUNorseBSB falls to Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team fell to Youngstown State by a final score of 14-7 on Saturday afternoon. YSU moves to 16-32 overall and 9-16 in the Horizon League. NKU is 14-33 overall and 9-17 in league play.
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Sam Williams got the start and took the loss on the mound. He allowed eight runs in 1.1 innings.
  • Cameron Ross came out of the bullpen and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings.
  • Kaleb Meeks allowed four runs in 0.2 innings.
  • Jordan Menfee pitched the final 3.1 innings, and he allowed two runs on four hits.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • YSU took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, as the first three batters crossed the plate for the Penguins.
  • The Penguins added five runs in the second inning to go ahead 8-0.
  • Doersching started the bottom of the second for the Norse with a solo home run to left field to make the score 8-1.  
  • YSU scored four more runs in the top of the sixth inning to go ahead 12-1. Nick Massey hit a two-run homer to left center in the frame.
  • The Norse crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the seventh. Collin Hohman and Moffatt each singled in the inning, and they both scored on separate wild pitches to make the score 12-3.
  • NKU scored three more times in the bottom of the eighth. Dominic Mercurio hit a two-run single in the inning, and Moffatt scored on a wild pitch.
  • YSU extended its lead to 14-6 in the top of the ninth. Web Charles hit a two-run homer in the frame.
  • The Norse got their final fun in the bottom of the ninth. Doersching scored on a wild pitch in the inning, but YSU went on to win by a final score of 14-7.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Doersching now has four home runs in the series and 13 on the year, which leads the team. He also has 45 RBIs this season, which ranks second for NKU.
  • Moffatt has recorded nine doubles on the season.
  • YSU had 15 hits in the contest and the Norse had 12.
  • NKU stranded 11 runners, and the Penguins left six on base.

  • The Norse close out the series against Youngstown State on Sunday at 12 p.m. Before the game, NKU will recognize its nine seniors.
