Wright State defeats @NKUNorseBSB in regular season finale

DAYTON, Ohio - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team was defeated by Wright State on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 22-2. It was the regular season finale for both teams. The Raiders improve to 36-15 overall and 22-6 in the Horizon League. NKU falls to 14-38 and 9-21 in the league.
 
AT THE PLATE  
ON THE MOUND
  • Travis Rowland got the start. He gave up just one hit in one inning of work.
  • Gunnar Barnard came out of the bullpen in the second inning. He took the loss, allowing five runs on two walks and three hits.
  • Jordan Menfee allowed five runs on five hits.
  • Chris Barber gave up three runs on four hits in 1.1 innings.
  • Pat Kelley pitched three innings, allowing five runs on six hits.
  • Nick Beard threw two innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Wright State crossed the plate 10 times in the bottom of the second to take a 10-0 lead.
  • The Raiders added three runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 13-0. Chase Slone hit an RBI double, and Zach Weatherford added a two-run single.
  • NKU scored a run in the top of the fourth. Haueter led off the inning with a double, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Doersching.
  • Peyton Burdick hit an RBI double for Wright State in the bottom half of the fourth to make the score 14-1.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Wright State scored four times to go ahead 18-1. Burdick and Slone each hit a sacrifice fly in the frame, and Zane Harris and Gabe Snyder added RBI singles.
  • The Norse got another run in the top of the seventh. Roberts and Doersching walked in the inning to put runners on first and second. They both advanced on a wild pitch, and Roberts came home on Shane Paradis' sacrifice fly.
  • Snyder hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh for Wright State, giving the Raiders a 19-2 lead.
  • WSU scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead 22-2. Alex Alders hit a two-run homer, and Quincy Hamilton added an RBI ground-rule double.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Haueter has now reached base in 31-straight games. He also has 45 doubles in his career, which puts him in sole possession of sixth place in the NKU record book.
  • Doersching has recorded nine doubles this season, which is tied for third on the team.
 
UP NEXT
  • NKU will be the No. 6 seed in the Horizon League Tournament. The Norse will play No. 3 seed Milwaukee on Wednesday, May 23. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. All of the games for the Horizon League Tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
