HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's basketball team collected the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. To be eligible for the award, teams must record a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for the entire school year.
NKU posted a 3.16 GPA in the spring semester, just two-hundredths off of a program record. The men's basketball team was also part of a stellar academic semester for the Norse athletic department, which posted a record 3.46 GPA with every program checking in above a 3.13.
Drew McDonald was one of two Norse who were also recognized by the Horizon League with league all-academic honors this season.
Northern Kentucky's success has been reaching all areas of the program in the past two seasons. In addition to the aforementioned classroom achievements, the Norse are 46-22 on the court with a Horizon League regular-season title, league tournament title and made appearances in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and 2018 NIT. In the community, the Norse volunteered more than 190 hours during the 2017-18 season.
