@NKUNorseWBB drops road contest at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND– Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to 3-13 overall and 2-4 in Horizon League play after dropping a 76-47 decision on the road at Cleveland State. With the win, the Vikings move to 7-11 overall and 4-3 in league play.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Emmy Souder led the Norse in scoring with nine points to go with three rebounds.
  • Ally Niece, Taylor Clos and Grayson Rose each added eight points. Niece had a career-high eight rebounds to tie Kailey Coffey for the team lead, while Clos led the Norse with four steals.
  • Coffey added three assists, three blocks and three points to her stat line.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • NKU took a 3-2 lead on Molly Glick's three early in the contest, but CSU scored the next seven points to grab control of the first quarter and led the Norse 22-9.
  • The second period was a much tighter affair, with CSU outscoring NKU 15-13.
  • On three separate occasions in stanza, Northern Kentucky cut the deficit to 10, but trailed 37-22 at intermission.
  • Cleveland State made 56 percent (15-of-27) of its shots, while Northern Kentucky converted 35 percent (9-of-26). Neither team attempted many threes, where the Norse went 2-for-3 and the Vikings made 2-of-7.
  • Rose and Souder each scored four points to lead NKU, which also received contributions of three points from Clos, Glick and Niece.
  • NKU led the battle of the boards, 18-14, with Kailey Coffey's four caroms leading eight Norse with rebounds. Consequently, Northern Kentucky held a 9-5 lead in second-chance points.
  • CSU converted 13 NKU miscues into a 13-2 advantage in points off turnovers.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Cleveland State shot 64.3 percent and outscored the Norse by 10 points to hold a 62-37 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
  •  NKU got into a rhythm in the final 3:30 of the period, pouring in 11 of the 15 points during the span.
  • The Norse cut Cleveland State's efficiency down to 29.4 percent in the final quarter, but conversely struggled from the floor and scored all 10 points from the free throw line.
  • NKU went 10-for-12 from the charity stripe in the final period.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • Cleveland State retains the lead in the all-time series, 6-3. The Vikings have won the past five meetings.
  • NKU won the rebound battle, 41-35, and held the Vikings to just six offensive boards.
  • The Norse had 19 second-chance points compared to nine for the Vikings.
  • Cleveland State converted 19 points off NKU's 23 turnovers, and won the battle in the paint, 46-18.
