Victor’s Hoops 4 Health provides rowdy environment in @NKUNorseWBB win over Titans

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball claimed a 68-56 win over Detroit Mercy in front of a boisterous crowd of 3,751 during Victor's Hoops 4 Health Day. The Norse move to 4-14 overall and 3-5 in Horizon League play while the Titans drop to 3-16 (1-7 Horizon).
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Taylor Clos paced NKU with 19 points, going 5-for-9 from long range. It marks her second game with five 3-pointers and her second-straight with at least four triples.  She also added three assists and a steal.
  • Molly Glick also had a season-best 3-point shooting game with four made triples for 14 points.
  • Jazmyne Geist was just shy of her first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. She drew 15 of Detroit Mercy's 30 fouls in the contest.
  • Ally Niece rounded out NKU's double-digit scorers with 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
  • Kailey Coffey had a career game on the boards with 16 rebounds and also dished out a career-best five assists.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse held Detroit Mercy to just eight field goals in the opening half, leading the Titans 36-22 after the first two periods.
  • NKU relied heavily on its 3-point shooting, with seven of its 12 field goals coming from triples. Clos had four in the half while Glick added three.
  • The Norse outrebounded UDM 27-9, with Coffey just two boards behind the entire Titan squad at seven rebounds.
  • Detroit Mercy was held to just one assist in the first half, while NKU assisted on nine of the 12 field goals.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • The Titans rallied in the second half, nearly bettering their entire first-half effort with 20 points in the third quarter alone. UDM shot 46.2 percent in the second half, while NKU was not far behind at 37.5 percent.
  • Despite Detroit Mercy's offensive spark, the Norse continued to dominate on the boards and prevented the Titans from having many second-chance opportunities as UDM tallied just two offensive boards in the half.
  • Geist led the team offensively in the half with 10 points, going 3-for-3 from the field, along with five rebounds.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • NKU had a tremendous night on the boards, outrebounding Detroit Mercy 52-22. The Norse had more offensive rebounds (23) than UDM had total rebounds, which NKU converted into 25 second-chance points.
  • NKU won the battle in the paint by a slim margin, 22-20. The Titans had the edge in points off turnovers, 25-7.
  • The Norse assisted on 14 of their 21 field goals in the game, while the Titans registered just two assists in the contest.
  • NKU extends its all-time series advantage against Detroit Mercy to 5-3. The Norse have now won the past four meetings against the Titans.
