@NKUNorseWBB takes down the Jaguars in Thursday night nail biter

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.- Northern Kentucky women's basketball triumphed in a nail-biting game at BB&T Arena on Thursday night. In a team effort, the Norse were able to overcome many lead changes late in the game and ultimately upset the Jaguars, 60-57. The Norse move to 6-14 overall and 5-5 in Horizon League play and are riding a three-game winning streak for the first time this season. IUPUI is now 13-8 overall and 7-3 in the Horizon League.
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Ally Niece led the Norse in scoring with 16 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and dished out a career-best six assists. Niece also added a pair of free throws, which brings her streak to 17 consecutive made free throws dating back to Jan. 18 at Cleveland State.
  • Grayson Rose added 14 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field and a 4-of-7 performance from behind the arc, marking the first time in her career that Rose had made more than two triples in a contest. Rose tacked on eight rebounds and two blocks.
  • Taylor Clos supplied 12 points in a a 5-of-10 display. Clos had three rebounds and two assists to complete her night.
  • Molly Glick was also in double figures with 10 points. Glick worked hard defensively, accumulating three steals.
  • Kailey Coffey delivered her third-straight double-digit rebounding effort, pulling down a game-high 10 boards.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • The Norse went into halftime with a 25-19 lead. NKU went 10-23 (43.5 percent) from the field, allowing them to best the Jaguars as IUPUI went 32 percent from the field.
  • NKU won the rebounding battle ,17-14. Claiming the boards late in the half were huge for the Norse as the Jaguars chipped away at their 11-point deficit with less than six minutes remaining on the clock.
  • Rose and Niece were large contributors for the Norse in the first half. Rose notched six points and added three rebounds. Niece also tallied six points and dished out four assists with zero turnovers.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • IUPUI took advantage of the halftime break to recollect. The Jaguars jumped out to a 10-0 run to start the third quarter. Rose was again a pivotal player in stopping the run, as she got the first bucket for the Norse in the third quarter and knocked down a three on the next play.
  • The Norse found themselves in a battle the entire fourth quarter as the lead for either team never reached past a two-possession game. However, NKU took the lead late in the game with an 8-0 run.
  • With five seconds remaining in the game, Molly Glick went to the free throw line as the Norse led, 58-57. Glick showed a great display of poise and experience by connecting both free throws and ending all scoring for the night.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • The story in the paint was a marked difference from when the two teams last met on Dec. 30, when the Jaguars outscored the Norse 34-28 down low. IUPUI was held to nearly half that number as NKU posted a 22-18 advantage in the paint.
  • NKU also had the advantage in points off turnovers (12-7) and bench points (16-9). NKU committed just 12 turnovers, the second-lowest mark of the season in the statistic.
  • IUPUI led the rebound battle by one. IUPUI snagged 30 rebounds compared to NKU with 29.
  • The 57 points scored by IUPUI marks the third-lowest offensive performance of the season for the Jaguars. IUPUI entered the contest averaging 72.0 points per game in league play, the second-highest in the Horizon League.
  • Horizon League Player of the Year and the league's top scorer, Macee Williams ,was held to just two field goals in the contest.

  • Northern Kentucky is back home at BB&T Arena on Saturday, Feb. 2, when it hosts UIC at 2 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3.
