Green Bay claims win over @NKUNorseWBB

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –  The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team fell to Green Bay on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 81-61. The Phoenix improve to 7-6 and 2-1 in the Horizon League. NKU drops to 3-11 and 2-2 in league play. 
 
STAT LEADERS
  • Ally Niece poured in a career-high 21 points. She went 6-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-7 on 3-point attempts.
  • Emmy Souder scored 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc.
  • Molly Glick chipped in nine points, and Taylor Clos added eight points and four assists.
  • Taryn Taugher scored six points and added three rebounds.
  • Kailey Coffey led the Norse with nine rebounds, along with four assists and three steals.
 
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Green Bay started the game on a 7-0 run. The Norse battled back and cut the lead to one at 17-16 with 1:41 to play in the first quarter.
  • Niece scored eight points to lead the Norse in the first quarter of action and the Norse were 5-for-8 on 3-point attempts, but six NKU miscues turned into 12 points for Green Bay as the Phoenix led 24-19 at the end of the first quarter. 
  • A 9-0 run by Green Bay in the second quarter put the Phoenix ahead 38-24 with 5:25 left in the period, and the Phoenix took a 44-32 lead into halftime.
  • Niece finished the half with 14 points for NKU, already surpassing her previous career best. She shot 4-of-5 from long range.
  • The Norse went 11-of-27 (40.7 percent) from the floor, including 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) on three-pointers.
  • NKU held Green Bay to 2-of-10 (20.0 percent) shooting on attempts from behind the arc.
 
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Souder scored seven points for the Norse in the third quarter, but Green Bay outscored NKU 23-14 in the period to go ahead 67-46.
  • NKU had a 15-14 advantage in points in the fourth quarter.
  • The Norse outrebounded the Phoenix 14-13 and finished with a 7-0 advantage in second-chance points in the half.
 
NORSE NOTES
  • The Norse bench outscored Green Bay's bench, 26-21, but the Phoenix had the edge on other specialty stats with 44 points in the paint and 29 points off turnovers.
  • NKU went 15-of-18 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line in the game. 
  • Niece's previous career-high in points was 12. She has now scored in double figures in four-straight games and is leading NKU in Horizon League action with 13.5 points per game.
