GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northern Kentucky volleyball fell on the road to the reigning Horizon League champion, Green Bay, 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20. With the setback, NKU drops to 10-10 overall and 3-5 in Horizon League play while the Phoenix move on to 14-6 (6-2 Horizon).
First Set Summary
- The Norse held tight to the Phoenix to start the set, but Green Bay made consistent runs to take a 15-10 advantage. The Phoenix then used a six-point run to take a 21-10 lead, which was too much for the Norse to overcome.
- NKU saw three kills out of Peytton Bagwell, Laura Crawford and Abby Kanakry. Ashton Terrill led the back row with six digs.
- Green Bay had fewer kills than NKU, but did not commit a hitting error and connected at a .375 clip in the opening frame.
Second Set Summary
- NKU held Green Bay to a .067 hitting percentage in the second set, aided by five blocks, four of which came from Bagwell.
- Green Bay held the lead for much of the set, but NKUended the set on a four-point run that included three key blocks.
- The Norse spread the offense out well once again, with Kanakry pacing the team with three kills and four other Norse had a pair of kills.
Third Set Summary
- The Phoenix fought off a late effort by the Norse, with NKU posting a 7-1 run before Green Bay put away the last two points to go up by a set.
- Anna Brinkmann had an efficient set with five kills and no errors on eight swings, also contributing five digs.
Fourth Set Summary
- NKU started the final set with a 5-2 lead, but the Phoenix started chipping away after calling a timeout and took the lead at the 16-15 mark, holding advantage for the rest of the set.
- The Norse committed eight hitting errors in the frame and hit .106 for their least efficient frame.
- Kanakry added four kills, while Brinkmann and Crawford had three each. Defensively, Terrill picked up nine digs while Crawford and Brinkmann each added six.
Norse Notes
- With her second dig in the match, Shelby Olsen became just the third Norse setter to amass at least 2,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career. She joins Molly Donovan (1995-97) and Taylor Snyder (2013-16). Olsen finished the match with 13 assists and eight digs.
- Brinkmann posted her second-straight double-double with 11 kills and 20 digs.
- Crawford also had a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.
- Wucherer dished out 32 assists and had 13 digs.
- Bagwell had a career match with nine kills and seven blocks.
- Terrill recorded a match-high 27 digs and also led the Norse from the service line with two aces.
- Green Bay hit .206 in the match, while NKU hit at a .143 clip. The digs were tied at 90 apiece and the Norse had the edge in blocks, 8.0-7.0.
