@NKUNorseMSOC takes down Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-1

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's soccer team got back into the win column on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne at NKU Soccer Stadium.

"We had lost five straight, so getting on track again toward the end of the season was important," said head coach Stu Riddle. "While I'm disappointed we only scored three goals on [32] shots, all that mattered was a win, and that's what we got."

NKU SCORING SUMMARY

BETWEEN THE POSTS

  • Baj Maan played the entire match and allowed the only goal of the evening.

MATCH SUMMARY

  • The Norse made it a point to be aggressive offensively to open the match, which generated several offside calls, but ultimately created multiple on-goal chances as well.
  • Beginning at the 17th minute, the Norse took four shot attempts in as many minutes.
  • After several tries, NKU found the scoreboard as feeds from Kooistra and Willis during a breakaway reached Probert, who drilled a shot into the net in the 27th minute.
  • NKU never laid off on the offensive pressure after the goal, as a floodgate of shot attempts opened. Willis had his second assist of the night in the 41st minute when he found Greive for a goal.
  • The Norse opened the second half the same way they did the first, but Purdue Fort Wayne struck back and put the game in reach with a goal at the top of the 64th minute.
  • NKU placed six on-target shots in a three-minute span beginning in the 71st minute.
  • Greive gave the Norse their final goal of the night off of passes from TJ Harris and Kooistra in the 84th minute.

NORSE NOTES

  • The Norse had 32 shots on the night with 17 being on goal, the highest single-game total for NKU in both categories this season.
  • In a nine game span, Greive has been on a tear, finding the net 13 times.
  • Kooistra started just his fifth match of the year due to injury and equaled his 2018 assist total of two in tonight's match.
  • Although the result column hasn't necessarily been in NKU's favor, the offense has seen an uptick in production. NKU has 20 goals in the last seven matches as opposed to six in its first seven matches.

UP NEXT

  • The Norse face Bradley at home in their final nonconference matchup of the season on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
