HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky volleyball fell in five sets to Horizon League foe Oakland, dropping to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in league play. The Golden Grizzlies advance to 9-8 and 2-3 in the Horizon League.
 
First Set Summary
  • NKU was able to take the lead from the opening point and maintain advantage through the opening set. The Norse terminated 14 attacks, half of which came from Abby Kanakry on a .400 hitting percentage. Anna Brinkmann added three kills and Laura Crawford chipped in two.
  • The Norse hit .186 but only committed one unforced hitting error as the Golden Grizzlies rejected five NKU attacks.
 
Second Set Summary
  • In a tight second set, NKU fought to tie the contest up multiple times, with the teams trading points from the 21-21 mark until the close of the frame. NKU fought off a pair of set points, but Oakland converted on the third with a kill out of the middle.
  • Both squads hit above .300 in the set, with NKU converting 21 kills on 41 swings. Brinkmann led the way with five kills, while Kanakry and Bailey Western added four each. In the back row, Terrill scooped up six digs while Crawford added five.

  • Oakland won a hotly-contested deciding set, which featured three challenges. The Golden Grizzlies pulled away following the switch and held off a Norse run that tied the contest at 12-12. Oakland used two kills and an NKU error to take the win.

Norse Notes
  • Crawford tied her career high of 21 kills and also notched a new career best of 27 digs. It marked NKU's first 20/20 match since Haley Libs posted 21 kills and 37 digs against Cleveland State on Nov. 10, 2018. She also added two aces.
  • Brinkmann finished with 16 kills and a season-best 23 digs.
  • Kanakry rounded out the double-digit kills leaders with 11 terminations to go with a pair of blocks.
  • Olsen had her third-straight double-double with 26 assists and 15 digs.
  • Wucherer also chipped in a double-double with 32 assists and 17 digs.
  • Terrill recorded 26 digs, six assists and two aces.
  • NKU has not had three players with 20+ digs in a single match since Oct. 22, 2017 against IUPUI. Olsen had 25 digs in that match while Crawford and McKenzie Eskridge each had 24.
  • NKU hit .194 as a team, while the Golden Grizzlies were marginally stronger at a .214 clip.
  • The match featured a combined 245 digs, with Oakland recording 126 digs while NKU had 117. Oakland also had a 14.0-3.5 advantage on the block.
