@NKUNorseWBB faces Lipscomb to start weekend in Nashville

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball kicks off a weekend of competition in Nashville by first heading to former Atlantic Sun opponent, Lipscomb. The Norse and the Bisons are set to square off on Friday, Nov. 15, with tip-off at 6:30 p.m. CT/7:30 ET on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT: The Norse hosted Saint Louis in the 2019-20 home opener, but fell to the Billikens, 67-42. Saint Louis used 45.7 percent shooting from the field and 26 trips to the free-throw line to push past the Norse, who were led by Molly Glick's 10 points while Grace White contributed nine off the bench.

SCOUTING LIPSCOMB: The Bisons are also looking for their first win of the season, suffering setbacks to Dayton, 82-60, and a Jacksonville State, who the Norse will face on Nov. 29, 65-63. Three Bisons are averaging double digits on the young season, led by Dorie Harrison's 13.5 points per game. Jalyn Holcomb is not far behind with 13.0 ppg and Casey Collier adds 10.0 ppg. Harrison has also been pacing the Bisons on the boards with 6.5 rebounds per game and has two of the team's six steals this season. Lipscomb has held pace with their opponents in offensive efficiency, as they both score and allow opponents to score at a 37.1 percent from the field, while the 3-point field-goal percentage is also close at 25.0 percent for the Bisons and 26.1 percent for opponents. However, Lipscomb has sent opponents to the free-throw line nearly twice as many times as it has gone to the charity stripe, and the Bisons have been edged down low as they are out-rebounded 44.0-32.5 and have allowed five blocked shots per game.

NKU has won all six meetings against the Bisons, all of which came while the Norse were a member of the Atlantic Sun. In the most recent game, Northern Kentucky edged Lipscomb, 64-57, on Feb. 7, 2015.

A LOOK AT THE NORSE: Northern Kentucky returns 91.1 percent of its scoring from a season ago, including all five starters. Redshirt-senior Molly Glick, a preseason all-league honoree, is the lone senior on the squad. Ally Niece returns for her sophomore campaign after being named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, averaging 12.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in league play. Northern Kentucky also welcomes four newcomers who look to make an immediate impact: Janna Lewis, Carissa Garcia, Tayah Irvin and Ivy Turner. Lewis joins the Norse out of Motlow State Community College, where she was named an NJCAA All-American. Garcia, a guard out of Fort Wayne, Indiana, was named to the Indiana All-Star team and was the Summit Athletic Conference's most outstanding player. Irvin, a forward from Fishers, Indiana, was heralded as the top defensive player for Hamilton Southeastern. Turner, a guard from Danville, Kentucky, was named the 12th Region Co-Player of the Year and ended her prep career as Danville's all-time leading scorer.
